Newry based contractors, O'Hare and McGovern have been appointed by Karl Properties for the above ground construction of Obel Tower in Belfast, which at 88.31 metres will become Belfast's tallest building.

The 75m GBP development, located on the edge of the River Lagan has been designed by internationally renowned architects, Broadway Malyan and is heralded as a sign of the invigorated regeneration and confidence in the city.

"We are delighted to have been appointed as contractors for such a unique development and to have the opportunity to play a part in the creation of Belfast's premier living and work space" said Eamon O'Hare, MD of O'Hare and McGovern.

"We look forward to seeing the Tower take shape over the enxt 24 months as part of the overall development.  The Obel Tower is the second of five large contracts O'Hare and McGovern have starting in 2008 so we have challenging and exciting times ahead that will keep us busy well into the next couple of years."

The Obel Tower is set to Belfast's most impressive apartment development, offering unparalleled views across the city within 282 stylish one, two and three bedroom apartments ; studios ; duplexes and penthouses.  The prestigious development will also include 274 car parking spaces ; 41,000 square foot of office space and 12,000 square foot of ground level commercial spacewhich will house restaurants and cafes, with possibly a 105 bed hotel.  It is expected that over 160 jobs will be created during the two year build.
